Devikilam or the ‘Pond of Goddess’ is famous for its lovely lake, plantations and scenic beauty. It is believed that Sita, the consort of Lord Rama, once bathed at the lake here. The lake is also ideal for trout fishing.

The curative properties of the pure mineral waters of the 'Sita Devi Lake' (in which Sita, wife of Lord Rama, is believed to have bathed) is the main attraction here. Rare varieties of flora and fauna in and around Devikulam draw a lot of tourists to this place. The road to Munnar, a part of Kochi - Madurai highway, is itself a feast to the eyes. An idyllic hill station, near Munnar, Devikulam is an exceptional experience among exotic flora and fauna, cool mountain air, and velvet lawns. The Sita Devi Lake situated here is an ideal picnic spot with its picturesque surroundings, mineral water, and trout-fishing facilities.

There are Standard hotels in the town and other forms of accommodation range from the most luxurious to cheap budget hotels. The hotels are fully equipped with all the best amenities you will need for a comfortable stay. If you want to swish past the hill station in a day stay in one of the Budget hotels within the town area, otherwise if you have time and if your budget allows you, choose a hotel/resort situated amidst picturesque surroundings to enjoy the natural beauty of the place. After all, it's the environment and tranquil atmosphere which is the one to be enjoyed at Munnar.

During the peak season, it is always advisable to be on the safer side by booking accommodation well in advance. In the last few years, there is a huge spike in the tourists arrival, and most of the hotels have been on full board for a long time.

Sree Narayana Tourist Home near Tourist Information Office is one the best and less expensive lodge in Munnar. Munnar Tourist Home, Misha Holiday home on either side of the town are also decent budget hotels. Hotel Isaac's The Residency, Hotel Hill View, Edassery Eastend and the Royal Retreat are mid-range expensive.

Best Time To Visit Munnar

The best time to visit Munnar is between arrival of winter October to May, when the rains are not a frequent overflow. Don?t visit during the monsoon months that fall between June and September as you are guaranteed of getting thoroughly wet. Keep an umbrella handy all through the year though.

It is recommended to take along a good number of woolens if visiting Munnar especially during the winter season. Multiple layers of clothing also helps. In the summers, a light sweater would be enough to keep away the evening chill however. Lots of woolen shops can also be found in the central town area.

The weather in Munnar is pleasant most of the year. Summers (April-June) are mild, while winters (November-February) are cool. It experiences heavy southwestern monsoon rains in June-August.
